(Hartford, CT – October 2011)  — After serving four years on the Board of Directors and three years as Gala Committee co-chair, Kim Pita, managing principal of The Pita Group of Rocky Hill, will now take on the leadership role of board president of the Hartford Children’s Theatre (HCT).

Now in its 21 year, HCT focuses on the development of all children by providing live theatrical arts on multiple city stages, year-round drama education and outreach programs in Hartford and suburban schools across the state.

“Kim’s energy, enthusiasm and leadership experience is exactly what we need at the children’s theatre to continue to guide us through the growth we are experiencing,” said Executive Director Michael Kintner.

“This leadership role is extremely meaningful to me,” said Pita. “Both of our children are actively involved in HCT and our company is a strong supporter both financially and creatively.” Pita’s daughter Alexandra appeared as an orphan in the theatre’s 2010 production of Annie, and her son, Jordan, has been taking classes and performing at the theatre for six years.

“I am committed to ensuring this unbelievable arts organization continues to flourish and gain the attention it deserves not only in our city, but our region, our state and throughout New England,” said Pita. “What we offer is extremely rare and necessary for the holistic development of children. The team we have in place to lead the board and the organization is phenomenal.”

Joining Pita on the executive committee are:

  • Vice President, Robin Zaleski, director of marketing, PME Enterprises
  • Treasurer, Ben Sweet, president, BRSweet Technologies
  • Secretary, Tamara J. Pickney, HR Talent Operations, Aetna, Inc.

In her role as president, Pita will focus on building the board, developing a clear strategic direction for the growing theatre, establishing more community collaborations with existing non-profits and organizations, and expanding the performance and education spaces.
